Litibú languishes

Construction has stopped on three of the four luxury resorts being built at Litibú. Blamed is the recession. The development, on the Nayarit Riviera and only a mile from posh Punta Mita, by now was expected to be attracting 720 tourists annually. That, at least, was the plan when the project was unveiled five years ago. Work on a golf course continues, but at a slow pace.

Litibú is a project of Fonatur, the government agency that first put Cancun on the map. It also helped with Los Cabos, but Los Cabos already had been discovered. Ixtapa has grown, but slowly. Huatulco struggles to be reborn while Loreto, now with virtually no air service, appears to have been forgotten.
