Aeroméxico will suspend service to Toronto in March and already has left Montreal. Flights were initiated only last year. The two Canadian cities remain served by Mexicana and Air Canada. Last July, Canada began requiring visas for Mexican visitors and obtaining these is costly and complicated. Since July, Mexico travel to Canada has declined by about 34 percent.
Frank Galvan, an operations vice president of Aeroméxico, blamed the visa requirement for the termination of the Canada flights. Mexicana has reported a 30 percent decline in sales to Mexicans and has suspended its route to Edmonton. It continues to fly to Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal.
