Mexico may slip from ranking as the 10th most visited country on earth to ranking 13th, according to figures compiled by the UN’s World Tourism Organization. Visitor arrivals in 2012 totaled 29,569,000, a light decline from 2011, central bank statistics revealed. Other countries showed a slight increase in arrivals. Tourism Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu said among steps needed now was the implementation of a General Tourism Law enacted three years ago but still awaiting is regulations — such as details for categorizing hotels — to be specified. One more disappointing announcement revealed that the number of passengers carried by Aeroméxico last year declined by 3.3 percent. The airline carried only 14.8 million passengers, far less than the 16 million it had been counting on.
