During 2012, 9,684,000 foreign citizens arrived in Mexico, according to the Mexican Immigration Institute, the agency charged with compiling these statistics. This was a 5 percent increase over 2011. Americans accounted for 55 percent of the total, 3.5 percent more than in 2011. From Canada came 1.35 million travelers, nearly as many as the 1.4 million who arrived from Europe. United Airlines, now merged with Continental, brought in 22 percent of all air passengers, followed by American and then Aeroméxico.
