Air fares within Mexico have increased an average of 25 percent over what was charged last year, according to government figures. In some cases, the increases are much higher. The tariff for Mexico City to Los Cabos is now 2,656 pesos (about $212), up 54 percent over 2009. And this is before taxes are added in. Blamed is the economic crisis, a decline in sales and higher fuel costs. Even the so-called low fare airlines are charging more. Interjet has raised its tariffs an average of 15 percent over what it charged last year.
