Volaris flying high

Low-fare Volaris now flies from Las Vegas to Guadalajara and this month will inaugurate a Fresno-Guadalajara and Oakland-Mexico City route, making it the second largest Mexican airline — after Aeroméxico — in terms of international service. Volaris now operates five flights from (or to) the USA. With the at least temporary demise of Mexicana, foreign — mostly US — airlines have increased their share of the Mexican international market by more than 10 percent. Within Mexico, domestic fares have increased by an average of 42 percent, according to the Labor Ministry. Interjet, now the second largest airline in Mexico, last week began experimenting with what is called a biofuel produced in part from jatrofa, a plant with no known nutritional value. Biofuel is said to be ecologically better that oil. It also is cheaper.
